iOS 4

Other then the official announcement of iPhone 4, the final release of iOS4 (the new name for the iPhone OS) was also announced at WWDC. The highly anticipated OS has been in beta for almost half a year now and is now ready for the wild. iPhone 3G and 3GS and iPod Touch 2G and 3G owners will be able to download and install the new OS on July 21st; completely free of charge.

Thats right, iPod Touch owners will not have to pay a dime for this update (unlike the previous OSs that came with a $9.99 price). This is great news for developers as they wont have to worry about OS compatibility on older devices (Except for the 1st gen models. Does anyone still care about those?). And everyone will be able to upgrade and take advantage of all the great new OS features with no excuses.

Make sure to make June 21st on your calendars. It’s gonna be a heavy net traffic day as everyone fires up iTunes for the download.
